Deadline for free Aadhaar updates approaching: How to update your Aadhaar online
Aadhaar update deadline: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has urged citizens to update their Aadhaar details ahead of the upcoming deadline of December 14, 2024. While updating Aadhaar details is optional, the UIDAI encourages those who received their Aadhaar cards more than 10 years ago to take advantage of the free update service.
Aadhaar serves as a critical identification document for every Indian citizen, ensuring authenticity, legal compliance, and ease of access. The UIDAI assigns each individual a unique identification number, linked to their biometric data, which prevents the creation of fake identities.
While updating Aadhaar is not mandatory, it is recommended to ensure that all personal details are current. This not only improves service delivery but also ensures accurate authentication and simplifies various daily activities. The update is particularly important if you've moved to a new address or if there are any discrepancies on your current Aadhaar card.
Important update timeline and costs
Aadhaar updates are free until December 14, 2024. After this deadline, any updates will incur a nominal fee of Rs 50.

Aadhaar update regulations
According to a 2022 PIB release, UIDAI encourages individuals who received their Aadhaar cards more than 10 years ago to update their information. This aligns with Aadhaar’s enrolment and update regulations, which allow residents to update their details once every 10 years with valid proof of identity and address.
UIDAI emphasised that updating Aadhaar helps improve the ease of living, enhances service delivery, and ensures precise authentication. Additionally, the authority has announced that residents can upload documents for free through the myAadhaar portal until December 14, 2024.
