'Truly Astronishing': Amul celebrates return of Sunita Williams, Butch Wilmore to Earth in its signature style
PTC Web Desk: Astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore have finally returned to Earth after spending nine months aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The duo originally set out on June 5, 2024, for what was meant to be an eight-day mission, but their stay was unexpectedly extended due to propulsion issues in their Starliner capsule. After multiple delays, they successfully landed back on March 19, 2025, marking the end of their prolonged space journey.
Their safe return has captured global attention, and Amul, known for its creative and timely illustrations, has paid tribute with a special topical. The artwork features Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore lying on mobility aids after exiting their capsule, smiling and waving. Williams also gives a thumbs-up to the camera.
True to Amul’s signature style, the topical includes witty wordplay. The headline reads, "Truly Astronishing", highlighting the astronauts' resilience in space for far longer than planned. Below, the words "This ISS wonderful" cleverly reference the International Space Station.
Amul frequently celebrates significant achievements across sports, science, and entertainment. Before this, the brand had released a topical for the Indian men's cricket team after their victory at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The illustration showed captain Rohit Sharma holding the ICC Trophy while enjoying an Amul butter-smeared slice of bread, alongside the caption: "Always unbeaten, never uneaten. Champions chomp it."
