79-year-old woman achieves dream of visiting 193 countries in 50 years
PTC News Desk: Luisa Yu, a Filipino American with a lifelong passion for travel, fulfilled her dream of exploring the world by visiting all 193 countries over the span of five decades. Her journey began with a childhood fascination with landscapes depicted in movies, inspiring her to pursue a life of adventure.
Upon arriving in the United States as an exchange student at 23, Yu seized every opportunity to travel, starting with domestic trips across the country via Greyhound bus. Transitioning from a career in medical technology to becoming a travel agent provided her with the flexibility needed to embark on her global adventures.
"When I [went to] the movies, I [saw] this beautiful backdrop about the scenery, the nature, the rivers, the mountains, and that fascinated me," Ms Yu told Good Morning America. "That's why I always thought someday I will go to these places and travel."
From European destinations like Italy to Asian countries such as Thailand, and even venturing into African and Middle Eastern nations like Libya and Iran, Yu fearlessly explored diverse cultures and histories. Her ultimate goal was to visit every member state of the United Nations, motivated by a desire to witness firsthand the richness of each region's heritage.

Despite facing potential risks in certain areas, Yu remained undeterred, driven by her curiosity and passion for discovery. Her determination led her to Serbia, where she received a warm reception from supporters as she completed her monumental journey on November 9, 2023. Celebrated by fellow travellers and influencers like Vanna Bojovic, Yu's accomplishment serves as an inspiration to people of all ages. Encouraging others to pursue their travel dreams without hesitation, Yu emphasises the importance of seizing opportunities and embracing the unknown.
Recognised by Nomad Mania as one of only two individuals from the Philippines to achieve the distinction of "UN Master" for visiting all 193 countries, Yu's remarkable journey stands as a testament to the transformative power of exploration and the enduring spirit of adventure.
