Zomato introduces 'dark mode' feature: Users praise for eye-friendly experience

PTC News Desk: Restaurant aggregator and food delivery giant Zomato has introduced a highly anticipated feature to its app: Dark Mode. This update aims to enhance user comfort, particularly for those who prefer ordering food late at night without the strain of a bright screen.

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal announced the rollout of Dark Mode via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating, "Welcome to the dark side. Being rolled out to everyone over the next few days. Update at 30 per cent rollout right now; 100 per cent by Sunday." Dark Mode, which switches the app's color scheme to a dark background with lighter text, is designed to reduce eye strain and is better suited for low-light environments. Users can activate this feature from their profile settings within the app.

The announcement was met with enthusiasm from Zomato users, many of whom expressed their relief and satisfaction in the comments. One user wrote, "Oh, finally. My eyes say thank you," while another remarked, "Finally. As someone who uses everything on dark mode, opening the Zomato app is kinda harsh on the eyes."

Late-night users also showed appreciation, with comments like, "Thank you, Sir. Now, at 11 pm when I order pizza while lying on my couch with the lights off, I don't have to get blinded by the phone’s bright light," and "Ab raat ke 3 baje khana order karne aae aankhe to nahi futegi [Now my eyes won't strain if I order food at 3 o'clock in the night]."

However, not all feedback was positive. Some users criticized the implementation, with one saying, "Wow, Zomato, what a joke this so-called 'dark mode' is. You hype it up like some grand release, and the first thing I see when I open the app is that blinding, eye-searing red splash screen! What's the point of a dark mode if I’m getting blasted with a red screen every single time?" In response, Goyal acknowledged the issue and promised to address the problem, stating, "Fair point. Need to fix the splash. Will do."

Zomato's new Dark Mode feature is expected to fully roll out by Sunday, providing users with a more comfortable experience during late-night food orders. What are your thoughts on this update? Share your feedback in the comments section.
