Zepto's Rs 140 dhaniya price in Gurgaon sparks social media outrage

PTC News Desk: Recently, a Gurgaon resident expressed his dismay on social media about the cost of dhaniya (coriander) on the fast-commerce website Zepto. A screenshot of the common herb selling for ?Rs 131 per 100 grams on Zepto, even after a 22 per cent discount, was provided by Harsh Upadhyay.

Zepto listed "Coriander Leaves" as ? Rs 131, but a client would have to pay ? Rs 141 for 100 grams of "Coriander Leaves Premium."

On the social media platform X, the Gurgaon resident shared a screenshot of his Zepto app and commented, "Dhaniya 100 gm costs you ? Rs 131 on Zepto."

Take a look at the post below:

On X, responses were mainly startled and humorous.

"I'd rather have dry fruits at this price!" one X user was declared.

"Ye chori hai. Boycott them, someone another said. It's like daylight robbery.

Some immediately made a comparison between Zepto's dhaniya pricing and that of Blinkit, its largest competitor, which has begun offering the herb free of charge with certain vegetable orders.

Someone wrote, "On Blinkit, it's ? Rs 40."

The edtech entrepreneur Saurabh Jain noted in the comments, "I ordered for around ? 50 on Blinkit in Delhi today."

Several X users noted, "Our local vegetable seller gives dhaniya for free."

Others made the observation that consumers pay the same amount for convenience as they do for the goods they purchase.

"But this is basically the same as Zomato... am I missing anything? One pays for the convenience of not having to go outside and be dragged through a manhole in the monsoon." enquired one X user.

"I'm pleading with you all to learn fundamentals without using these apps. One person retorted, "Daylight robbery in the name of convenience."
