PTC News Desk: In addition to receiving a lot of "peak desi mom" remarks and criticism, an Indian woman drying clothes on the balcony of an opulent Dubai hotel has also prompted a response from the hotel.

Pallavi Venkatesh posted an Instagram video of her mother drying clothing on the balcony of Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai, earlier this week. She wrote, "Moms just momming at Palm Atlantis." The camera goes to another balcony where more clothing are left out to dry in the sun while the senior Ms Venkatesh gingerly hangs a pair of shorts to dry on the guard rail.

Since being published six days ago, the video has collected up 11.1 million views and over 900 comments.

Moms are really adorable, as one Instagram user put it. Another joke was, "You can take mom out of India, but it's just not possible to take India out of mom."

However, a lot of people called the behaviour "bad manners." Authorities in Dubai have made it illegal to hang clothing to dry on balconies. To preserve the aesthetics of the city, the Dubai Municipality requested in 2021 that citizens refrain from hanging their laundry on their balconies or windows.

It's against the law. You might receive a fine," someone warned Venkatesh. Another person said, "Doesn't the hotel have laundry and drier facilities in-house?" In the UK, everyone engages in it. It's a healthy method for drying clothing. "Stop detesting each other," wrote a third Instagram user.

In the comments area, Atlantis, The Palm, a five-star resort renowned for its opulent amenities and first-rate service, ended the argument. The hotel complimented the Indian woman for doing "mom duties" and reminded her that visitors can dry their garments in each bathroom by using the retractable drying cable that is supplied.

"Mom duties," the official hotel account wrote, adding an emoji of applause. "We hope your visit was enjoyable! The hotel clarified, "(Every bathroom has a retractable drying cord so you can dry your clothes over the bath)."
