Punjab weather update: Heavy rains bring relief from heat in Punjab, traffic disrupted due to waterlogging
PTC News Desk: Heavy rainfall has been lashing several districts of Punjab since morning, providing much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave. However, the downpour has also led to waterlogging on roads, disrupting traffic in many areas. The Meteorological Department has forecast more heavy rain in the coming days, which is expected to further lower temperatures, offering additional respite from the scorching heat.
According to the weather office, districts like Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, and Mohali are likely to receive significant rainfall, while Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Moga, Ludhiana, Barnala, and Sri Fatehgarh Sahib are also expected to experience showers. Patiala may receive lighter rain.
Yesterday, Chandigarh recorded 31 mm of rainfall, with light showers in neighboring districts, leading to a temperature drop of 0.7 degrees. Despite this, temperatures across Punjab remain high. In cities like Faridkot, the temperature has soared to 39.5°C, while Bathinda recorded 37.9°C, Ludhiana 36.3°C, and Amritsar 35.4°C. After the rain in Chandigarh, the temperature dropped by 1.1 degrees but still remained at 36.2°C, which is 4.3 degrees above normal.
