Punjab Rain Alert: Mocha cyclonic storm to bring heavy rain in north India, Punjab braces for change in weather

Punjab Rain: Most parts of north India, including Punjab, is expected to experience a change in weather once again with heavy rainfall. Despite the onset of summer in May, the weather has been colder than usual with continuous rain.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning that a cyclonic storm called 'Mocha' will arise from the Bay of Bengal between May 7 and 9, which will result in rainfall not only in the eastern parts of the country but also in Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh for the next four days. There is also a possibility of unseasonal snowfall in the hills of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Due to this change in weather, there is a chance of rainfall in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

Furthermore, a Western Disturbance is active in Punjab, and its effect will be observed only on Saturday. The weather will start clearing from Sunday, and the temperature is expected to rise. The maximum temperature in Punjab on Friday was around 32 to 37 degrees. 

The Meteorological Department has predicted windy and strong winds in most parts of Punjab like Bathinda, Faridkot, Ferozepur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Moga, Muktsar, Tarn Taran, etc., over the next 24 hours. Additionally, there is also a possibility of storms in many places in Punjab.

On Friday, some areas of Amritsar and Jalandhar in Punjab received 10 MM of rainfall, while the rest of the districts witnessed light drizzle. Since March 1, 90.4 mm of rainfall has been recorded in Punjab, which is 128 percent surplus over normal for this time of the year. The Meteorological Department has forecasted the possibility of more rain in the future.
