Punjab rain fury: Innova carrying brides family swept away, 7 family members dead, 3 missing
PTC News Desk: Heavy rains have caused severe flooding across Punjab, leading to devastating incidents, including a tragic accident in Hoshiarpur. On the outskirts of Jaijo Doaba, near the Himachal Pradesh border, an Innova carrying 11 members of the same family was swept away by floodwaters. The vehicle reportedly overturned in Chow, a flood-prone area near Jaijo Doaba.
The accident claimed the lives of 7 of the 11 family members, whose bodies have since been recovered. Rescue teams are still searching for the remaining 3 missing individuals. The only survivor so far, Deepak Bhatia, was rescued by local villagers, but his condition remains critical.

The family, residents of Dehra in Una district, Himachal Pradesh, was en route to Nawanshahr for a wedding in a rented Innova when disaster struck. Eyewitnesses reported that around 10:30 AM, the vehicle was caught in the strong current of a gorge and swept away by the floodwaters.
A video of the incident has surfaced, showing the Innova being battered by the rushing water, with its windows open—suggesting that the passengers were likely carried away by the flood. The vehicle was eventually found lodged in bushes some distance away, but by then, the damage had already been done.
As the search continues for the missing family members, the incident serves as a grim reminder of the destructive power of nature and the importance of caution during extreme weather events. Local authorities and villagers are working tirelessly to locate the missing persons, while the community mourns the loss of those who perished in the flood.
