Punjab: Mystery shrouds death of Gurdaspur youth in Canada; family seeks govt's help in bringing back body
Gurdaspur, January 25: A pall of gloom descended on Bharo Harni village of Gurdaspur district after the news of the death of village youth in Canada reached here on Tuesday evening. The deceased has been identified as Gurpratap Singh.
ASI Amrik Singh said his son Gurpratap Singh had gone to Canada on study visa five years ago. He had been living in the city of Toronto. He said they received the tragic news of the death of their son on Tuesday.
Amrik Singh said his son Gurpratap Singh would call them occasionally. However, in the last one month, they did not have any contact with him. The family of Gurpratap Singh has appealed to the Punjab Government and other senior leaders to help bring back their son's body to Punjab for the last rites.

Notably, Canada is a country where most Indians are settled. Several recent cases of deaths of Punjabi youths in Canada have created a state of panic back home in India. Now parents are either not willing to send their children abroad or whose wards are already settled there are in a state of anxiety.
