Patiala flood crisis deepens: Punjab government urgently deploys Army for rescue operations

Chandigarh, July 10: The flood situation in Patiala, Punjab, is worsening by the hour, prompting the state government to seek immediate assistance from the Army. In a communication addressed to the Adviser of Civil Military Affairs at the Western Command's GOC-in-C Secretariat in Chandimandir, the Punjab Home Secretary has urgently requested the deployment of additional Army personnel to aid in the rescue efforts.

The Army was already present in the district and has been assisting with the ongoing rescue operations. However, with the situation deteriorating further, the Home Secretary has highlighted the urgent need for assistance in areas such as Gopal Colony, where the overflowing Bedi Nadi river has posed a threat. The request for Army support came following a report from the Patiala Deputy Commissioner, who emphasized the severity of flooding due to continuous rainfall. The Deputy Commissioner reported breaches in the Satluj-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal at various locations within the district, requiring immediate manpower and resources to contain the breaches.

The district administration, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), has mobilized all available resources at the local level.

The government's communication to the Army stated, "Considering the incessant rainfall and the critical flooding situation, we request the deployment of a suitable number of internal security columns from the Army to mitigate the situation."

The Punjab government is actively taking measures to address the escalating flood crisis in Patiala, seeking assistance from the Army to bolster rescue operations and provide support to affected areas.
