Kotkapura firing case: HC grants anticipatory bail to Sukhbir Singh Badal, Sumedh Saini, Paramraj Umranagal
PTC Web Desk: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday granted anticipatory bail to SAD chief Sukhbir Badal as well as to former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, former IGP Paramraj Umranagal and three other persons in the Kotkapura firing case.
In his judgment, Justice Anoop Chitkara concluded that pre-trial detention of the petitioners is unnecessary as long as they comply with the terms and conditions specified in the interim bail bonds.
Notably, former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and SAD chief Sukhbir Badal had claimed that both investigation committees formed to probe the 2015 incident had not mentioned his role anywhere, despite which he was implicated in the case in 2018. Charges have also been filed in this case.
On March 21, the High Court had granted him interim bail in this matter, and on Friday, the High Court confirmed his bail.
