Jamia Millia Islamia receives approval for Medical College at centenary convocation

New Delhi, July 23: During the centenary convocation ceremony of Jamia Millia Islamia University, Vice Chancellor Najma Akhtar made a momentous announcement stating that the central government has granted permission for the establishment of a medical college. The university has long aspired to have a medical college, and this approval marks the fulfillment of a dream cherished over several years.

Addressing the audience, Vice Chancellor Akhtar expressed her gratitude, saying, "Our hard work has been successful. Our dream of several years has come true today. I would like to thank the Prime Minister, Education Minister, President, and the Vice President of our country for helping us with this."


The addition of a medical college is a significant step forward for the university, which already houses dentistry, physiotherapy, and first aid health centers. With the establishment of the medical college, Jamia Millia Islamia will be able to offer comprehensive medical education to its students, benefiting both the student community and the faculty.

In addition to the announcement of the medical college, Vice Chancellor Akhtar also revealed plans for the university to establish an international campus in the Middle East, further expanding its global presence and outreach.

The centenary year convocation ceremony of Jamia Millia Islamia took place at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The event was graced by the presence of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar as the Chief Guest and chaired by Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan.

During the convocation, approximately 12,500 students, including gold medallists from the batches of 2019 and 2020, were conferred with degrees and diplomas in recognition of their academic achievements and contributions to the university community. The convocation served as a moment of celebration and pride for the entire institution.
