IIM Calcutta alerts students to beware of fake CAT 2024 websites

PTC News Desk: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta has issued a warning to Common Admission Test (CAT) aspirants about fraudulent websites posing as official CAT 2024 portals. The alert highlights that these deceptive sites may mislead candidates into providing personal information or making unauthorised payments.

According to an official notification on the CAT 2024 website, while advertisements for the test have appeared in various newspapers across the country, the only valid source of information and application is the official CAT website: https://iimcat.ac.in. The notification stresses that no other website is authorised for CAT 2024 registration or information.

The announcement warns, “The CAT Centre has been informed about a fraudulent website pretending to be an official CAT registration site. This website is soliciting personal information and applications, which is not legitimate. We urge all applicants and stakeholders to use only our official website and avoid falling victim to fraudulent sites engaging in phishing or pharming.”

IIM Calcutta has advised candidates to follow certain precautions while filling out their application forms:

  • Always verify the URL to ensure it is the official CAT website.

  • Avoid providing personal information or making payments on unsecured or suspicious sites.

Candidates and other stakeholders who encounter any suspicious activity are encouraged to report it to the CAT help desk at cat2024_helpdesk@iimcal.ac.in.

Registrations for CAT 2024 are currently open and will close on September 13, 2024. Prospective candidates can complete their registration on the official website. The exam is scheduled to be conducted by IIM Calcutta on November 24, 2024, across 170 cities. Admit cards will be available from November 5, 2024.

Approximately 21 IIMs and over 1,000 other MBA institutions use CAT scores for admissions into their MBA programmes.
