Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi Interview: One draft held by Punjab CIA, another in Rajasthan jail; SIT report released in High Court

PTC News Desk: A significant revelation has emerged from the prison interviews of notorious gangster Lawrence, the mastermind behind the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. The first interview took place while the gangster was in police custody in Kharar, Punjab, and the second was conducted in a Rajasthan jail.

These details come from the report of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the case. The SIT submitted this sealed report to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which was made public on Wednesday. Additional details from the report are still awaited.

Punjab DGP Rejects Claims

Gangster Lawrence's interviews were released on March 14 and 17, 2023, raising questions about the Punjab Police. In response, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav held a press conference where he asserted that the interviews were not conducted in Bathinda or any other jail in Punjab. The DGP presented two photographs of Lawrence, showing that when Lawrence was brought to Bathinda Jail, his hair was cropped, and he had no beard or mustache.

Lawrence's Confessions in Interviews

In the first interview, aired on March 14, Lawrence took responsibility for the murder of Sidhu Moosewala. He claimed that Moosewala was entangled in gang wars and was involved in the murder of his college friend, Akali leader Vicky Midukhera, which led to Moosewala's killing. According to the SIT report, this interview was given while Lawrence was in CIA custody.

In the second interview, Lawrence provided evidence of being interviewed from inside the prison, showing his barracks and explaining that while he was not allowed to leave, he had access to a mobile phone and signal. Lawrence stated that prison guards rarely visited at night, allowing him to make calls during those times. He also mentioned that mobile phones were smuggled into the prison, sometimes caught by staff but often reaching the inmates.

Current Status of Lawrence

Lawrence is currently imprisoned in Gujarat on drug trafficking charges. He is held in the Sabarmati High Security Jail in Ahmedabad. Recently, a video call recording of him sending Eid greetings to a Pakistani associate went viral.
