Chandigarh's CH01-CW '0001' registration plate fetches Rs 16 lakhs at auction
PTC News Desk: In a remarkable display of demand for exclusive vehicle registration numbers, the coveted registration number “0001” from the CH01-CW series was auctioned off for an impressive Rs 16.50 lakh during an e-auction conducted by the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) in Chandigarh. This significant amount far exceeded its reserve price of Rs 50,000, highlighting the popularity and desirability of such unique registration numbers.
The e-auction, which took place from September 21 to 23, featured a range of vehicle registration numbers, from “0001” to “9999” within the CH01-CW series, as well as the re-auction of leftover fancy numbers from previous series. In total, 489 registration numbers were auctioned, resulting in a substantial revenue of Rs 2.26 crore for the RLA.
Notably, the second-highest bid during this auction was for the number “0009,” which sold for Rs 10 lakh. The number “0005” also attracted significant attention, achieving a bid of Rs 9.98 lakh, securing the third spot in terms of highest bids.
This recent auction reflects a trend in the Chandigarh region for lucrative registration numbers. In a previous auction held on July 25 for the CH01-CR series, the number “0001” fetched Rs 16 lakh against the same reserve price of Rs 50,000, generating a total revenue of Rs 1.97 crore.
Earlier this year, on May 26, the e-auction for the CH01-CQ series, which included leftover fancy and special registration numbers, achieved even higher revenues, totaling Rs 2.57 crore. The number “0001” in that series sold for an impressive Rs 21.22 lakh, while “0009” garnered a bid of Rs 11.10 lakh.
It is essential to note that only individuals who have purchased vehicles registered at a Chandigarh address were eligible to participate in this exclusive e-auction. This stipulation ensures that the auction remains focused on local residents and provides them with the opportunity to own prestigious registration numbers.
The RLA continues to see significant interest and revenue from these auctions, reflecting the enduring appeal of unique vehicle registration numbers in Chandigarh.
