PTC News Desk: Begum Munawwar-ul-Nisa, the wife of the last Nawab of Malerkotla in Punjab, passed away in the early hours of Friday at the age of 100. Her demise  comes more than two years after she entrusted the 150-year-old Mubarak Manzil Palace of Malerkotla to the government for restoration, renovation, and preservation as a historical monument.

As per reports, she had not been keeping well for the past few days and was admitted to Hakeem Halima Hospital in Malerkotla. Begum Nisa, a royal princess, was the rightful heir of Nawab Sher Mohammad Khan of Malerkotla, a prominent figure in Punjab's history.

Nawab Sher Mohammad Khan is highly respected for his courageous stand against the execution of the younger Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh, Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, in the court of the Subedar of Sirhind, Wazir Khan, in 1705.

Begum Munawar ul Nisa was the third wife of Muhammad Iftikhar Ali Khan Bahadur, a descendant of Nawab Sher Muhammad Khan. Nawab's first two wives are no more. He also passed away in 1982. He had no children from any Begum.

Notably, in January 2021, during the tenure of former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Begum Nisa generously donated the remnants of her palace to the Punjab Government, ensuring its restoration and preservation as a significant historical monument.
