Throwing Cong MLAs out of Punjab Vidhan Sabha is murder of democracy, says Partap Singh Bajwa
Chandigarh, September 27: Senior Congress Leader & Punjab’s Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Partap Singh Bajwa on Tuesday termed the ousting of congress legislators by the ‘marshalls’ from the state assembly on the first day of the session as an absolute murder of demorcacy.
“First the Bhagwant Mann government had summoned assembly session completely against the constitutional provisions which were rightfully declined by the Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit. However the Bhagwant Mann government bent upon summoning the session though there was no immediate need or emergency for it”, said Bajwa.

The opposition parties never sought no confidence motion against the Punjab government.
“So what was the need to prove its majority on the floor of the house which was not needed and completely unconstitutional? The Bhagwant Mann government does not appear to believe in the rule of the law. Just because they have a brutal strength in the house does not mean the AAP government in Punjab can subjugate or muzzle the voice of the opposition”, said Bajwa.
Bajwa said he sent a letter to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and promised to extend all possible support and cooperation for the smooth conduct of the house because the opposition wanted to discuss many burning issues pertaining to Punjab. However instead of working on the same the speaker arbitrarily threw the congress MLAs out of the assembly.
Bajwa said he had been saying right from the day one there was nothing called “Operation Lotus”, and it was only the figment of imagination of the Bhagwant Mann government created to deflect attention from the real issues concerning people of Punjab.

“In fact both AAP and BJP are playing a friendly game only to score brownie points for the Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat assembly polls where the Arvind Kejriwal so far has failed to get traction. But we will not allow Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann to use resources of Punjab for his personal political gains”, said Bajwa.
