Shiromani Akali Dal's candidate Surjit Singh Rakhra who contested the Punjab Assembly elections 2022 from the for the Samana constituency. He was Minister for Water Supply and Sanitation, Higher Education and Languages (2012–2017). However, he lost the battle as he bagged only 34662 votes.
