Sunita Premi's family, that saved over 30 Sikhs during the 1984 massacre, has now come to the rescue of a Muslim family, the Khans, and its 12 members, during the recent Northeast Delhi violence. For more than three generations, Sunita Premi's family has lived in the Golakpur village in Northeast Delhi. Gulnaaz, the lady of the house, got to know that a tyre market near a petrol pump in the area was completely set ablaze by rioters on February 24. Meanwhile, Gulnaaz and her family panicked. As per the report, Sunita Premi narrated how she helped her neighbours, Gulnaaz and her family, the only Muslims living in the area. Sunita stated that she did not save them as they were Muslims but saved them because they were her family. She further said that they have been living together for almost three generations. My husband and hers, my father-in-law and hers have lived here together, she said. Their kids call me 'Tai' and Sunita's kids call her 'Chachi' and she loves them, it doesn't matter if she is a Hindu and they are Muslims, she added. Meanwhile, Gulnaaz stated that Sunita's kids call her Chachi and that they even eat 'sewaiyaan' on Eid, sweets on Diwali and play with colors on Holi. They never made us feel that we are Muslims, she added. Gulnaaz's son Zabair Khan revealed that they wanted to leave but the curfew was imposed in the area. He added that Taiji (Sunita) helped us. Sunita's mother-in-law had cut their hairs with her own hands so that they could be saved, she added. Meanwhile, a Muslim neighbour recalled the ordeal and said that Sunita's mother-in-law saved the Sikhs in the area. He also revealed that he was a 17-year-old boy studying in class 12 during the 1984 massacre. -PTC News
