Sukhbir Badal condemns Birs burning incident in Haryana
Asks Haryana government to order immediately probe to nab culprits Chandigarh/01 September: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president S. Sukhbir Singh Badal today condemned the unfortunate incident of burning of three birs of Shri Guru Granth Sahib ji at Shahabad Markanda in Haryana, even as he urged the Haryana government to order a probe into the incident to nab the culprits behind this sacrilegious act. In a statement here, the SAD president said he was shocked that three birs of Shri Guru Granth Sahib ji were found burnt at the premises of Gurudwara Sahib in village Nahar Majra of Shahbad Markanda in Kurukshetra district of Haryana on Thursday morning. He said this unfortunate incident had resulted in a wave of sorrow and grief amongst the Sikh community. He said while this could be the work of some miscreants there could also be a larger conspiracy to foment communal tension at a time when the situation was still volatile. Urging the Haryana government to immediately order a probe to trace the culprits behind this heinous act, the SAD president said the government must deal with the miscreants with an iron hand to ensure the communal fabric of the society was not distorted by such kinds of sacrilegious acts. He also urged the Haryana government to ensure the safety of all gurdwaras in state by making appropriate security arrangements at all sensitive areas. He appealed the Sikh Sangat of Haryana to be vigilant and guard the Gurdwaras to keep miscreants at bay. —PTC News
