World Cup 2023: Major setback for Team India as Hardik Pandya injured during India vs Bangladesh match

PTC Web Desk: In a significant setback for the Indian cricket team, all-rounder Hardik Pandya sustained an injury during the ICC Cricket World Cup match against Bangladesh at Pune's MCA Stadium on Thursday.

The injury occurred as Hardik Pandya attempted to stop a boundary in his first over. He slipped and twisted his ankle while doing so. Despite receiving treatment on his left leg and having his ankle taped, he was unable to continue and had to leave the field.

To cover for Pandya's absence, star batsman Virat Kohli, who typically does not bowl in limited-overs cricket, completed the over. Pandya's fitness is vital for India's World Cup 2023 prospects, as he contributes as a pace-bowling all-rounder, providing valuable overs and taking crucial wickets. He is also a dynamic batsman capable of anchoring the innings or providing power-hitting, depending on the situation.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) provided an update on Hardik Pandya's injury, stating that it was under assessment, and he was scheduled for scans.

In terms of the match itself, Bangladesh's stand-in captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, chose to bat after winning the toss. The regular skipper, Shakib Al Hasan, was absent due to injury, while India fielded an unchanged team.

India, led by Rohit Sharma, had been on an impressive winning streak in the World Cup 2023, with three consecutive victories. They aimed to maintain their unbeaten record against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Playing XI: Litton Das, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim (w), Mahmudullah, Nasum Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, and Shoriful Islam.

India Playing XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (w), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj.
