World Cup 2023, IND vs AUS: What will happen if India vs Australia final gets washed out?

World Cup 2023, IND vs AUS: The highly anticipated ODI World Cup 2023 final, set to take place on Sunday at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, is set to captivate cricket fans worldwide. With both teams displaying exceptional skill, the stage is set for a thrilling match that promises to be a fitting conclusion to the tournament.

India and Australia began their ICC World Cup 2023 campaign against each other. So far in the marquee tournament, Team India has put on incredible performances that have resulted in zero defeats and ten consecutive wins, including Wednesday's semi-final victory over New Zealand. Australia, which had a rough start with two losses, proved their worth by winning seven games in a row, including a semi-final victory over South Africa yesterday.

After 20 years, the two teams will meet in an ODI World Cup final. India finished second in the 2003 ODI World Cup after losing to the Ricky Ponting-led side.

This time, Australia will face host India in the nail-biting final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, hoping to recreate the historic moment.

What if the match is ruined by rain?

While the weather forecast for Sunday's final in Ahmedabad appears to be favourable, cricket officials are prepared for any unexpected delays.

If rain prevents play on the scheduled day, the match will be extended to a 'Reserve Day' on Monday, giving ample time for a conclusion. If the match gets washed out even after two days, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has devised a rule to eliminate the controversial boundary-count tiebreaker. Instead, the team with the best performance during the group stage will be crowned champions.

Rain Delay Protocol

If rain or other unanticipated events cause delays, an additional two hours will be allotted. Overs will not be deducted during this time. Overs will be deducted according to the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method if the delay exceeds two hours, with one over deducted for every five minutes lost.
