Vinesh Phogat news: Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has announced her retirement from the sport, just a day after being disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024. The announcement comes as a shock, especially as she was on the verge of winning a gold medal in the women's 50kg freestyle wrestling event. Unfortunately, Vinesh exceeded the weight limit by 100 grams during the morning weigh-in on Wednesday, leading to her disqualification. Despite her efforts to challenge the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), her appeal was unsuccessful.

In an emotional post on social media, Vinesh expressed her heartbreak, stating that wrestling had ultimately defeated her, shattering her spirit. Vinesh began her professional career in 2001, and 2024 marks the end of her journey as a competitive wrestler.

Early Life and Education

Vinesh Phogat faced numerous obstacles as a young child, growing up in an environment where discriminatory cultural norms often forbade women from participating in sports. Despite these challenges, her wrestling family background provided her with the perseverance and motivation to carry on their tradition. Guided by her uncle, she began training diligently, which eventually led to her success in wrestling.

Vinesh received her early education at KCM Senior Secondary School in Jhojhu Kalan. She later pursued higher education at Maharshi Dayanand University in Rohtak, where she completed her graduate program. Her academically rigorous wrestling background has played a crucial role in her development into the accomplished athlete she is today.
