PTC Web Desk: Gujarat opener Urvil Patel delivered a scintillating performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, hammering his second T20 century within six days. Playing against Uttarakhand at the Emerald High School Ground, Patel reached his hundred in just 36 balls, leading Gujarat to an emphatic eight-wicket win in only 13.1 overs.

With this knock, Patel became the first batter in T20 cricket history to score two centuries in fewer than 40 balls. This incredible feat follows his record-breaking 28-ball hundred against Tripura at the same venue last week.

Chasing a target of 183, Urvil Patel unleashed an attacking display, finishing unbeaten on 115 off 41 balls. His innings featured eight fours and 11 massive sixes, showcasing his ability to dominate bowling attacks. Gujarat comfortably chased the target with 41 balls remaining, thanks to Patel's explosive innings.

Earlier, Patel had smashed an unbeaten 113 off 35 balls while chasing 156 against Tripura. That knock, which included 12 sixes and seven boundaries, was completed in just 10.2 overs. His 28-ball century in that game remains the fastest by an Indian in T20 cricket, and his strike rate of 322.86 is only surpassed by Estonia's Sahil Chauhan, who scored a 27-ball hundred earlier this year.

Patel's ability to score quickly has been evident for some time. In List A cricket, he recorded the second-fastest century by an Indian, reaching the milestone in 41 balls against Arunachal Pradesh exactly a year before his first 28-ball T20 ton.

The 26-year-old, who was part of the Gujarat Titans squad during IPL 2023, was acquired for Rs 20 lakh but released ahead of the IPL 2024 season. Despite entering the IPL 2025 Mega Auction with a base price of Rs 30 lakh, Patel went unsold, a decision that may be reconsidered given his recent exploits.
