Suryakuymar Yadav Birthday: Recalling SKY's iconic 2024 World Cup final catch
Suryakuymar Yadav Birthday: Suryakumar Yadav, also known as 'SKY,' has become one of cricket's brightest and most prominent players in recent years, especially in the T20 format. His rise from the domestic circuit to the world scene has been one of determination, hard effort, and sheer talent.
Today, as SKY turns 34, let's recall his iconic catch that ended India's 13-year World Cup wait.
In a thrilling ending to the T20 World Cup 2024 final, India's star batter Suryakumar Yadav made what many considered the catch of the tournament. The match took place on Saturday, June 29, at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
David Miller, South Africa's last hope, needed to score 16 runs in the final over to secure the victory. Miller blasted a full toss high into the air with Hardik Pandya's first delivery of the over. The ball moved towards Suryakumar Yadav at long-on.
Suryakumar showed quick thinking and skill by catching the ball just at the edge of the boundary. When he realised he was crossing the line, he immediately flung the ball back into play, completing a critical dismissal.
Suryakumar finally completed the catch after coming within the boundary, turning the game in India's favour. With 16 runs needed in the final five balls of the game, Kagiso Rabada got an outside edge that went away for a boundary, reducing the equation to 12 needed off 4. Pandya, on the other hand, remained composed and conceded only four runs in the next four innings, allowing India to win their second T20 World Cup.
