'Protect future of wrestling': Sakshi Malik alleges 'intimidation' by Brij Bhushan's aides; seeks PM Modi's intervention

PTC News Desk: Sakshi Malik, a former wrestler, has posted a video on her X account alleging she is being threatened. She has also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and protect Indian wrestling's future.

In her video, Malik expressed her worries about the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), claiming that despite a court ruling, the WFI continues to manage the sport's activities. She also claimed that she has been threatened with serious charges of corruption, which has exacerbated her suffering.

"Respected Prime Minister and Sports Minister, Last year, following the Wrestling Federation elections, everyone witnessed Brij Bhushan Singh's dominance and bullying, which severely distressed me and prompted me to leave wrestling. After that, the government suspended the federation. However, the federation has resumed its activities," Malik stated.

"The court questioned how the federation could continue to operate after the government imposed a ban. The High Court issued a stay, but the WFI did not follow any directions. When the court penalised them again, the federation put forward the young athletes. I understand the difficulties these young athletes face; their careers depend on the federation. Prime Minister, if you believe the future of these girls is secure under the federation led by Brij Bhushan, you should lift the suspension. Otherwise, a permanent solution must be found," she stated.

Malik's heartfelt plea underscores ongoing concerns within the Wrestling Federation of India, as well as the need for quick government intervention to ensure a safe and fair environment for athletes.

In 2023, wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, and Vinesh Phogat took part in a protest against Brij Bhushan, who was accused of sexual harassment of female wrestlers.
