Paris Olympics 2024: China beat the Republic of Korea in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team final to claim the first gold medal of the Paris Games at the Chateauroux on Saturday. The winning duo, Yuting Huang and Lihao Sheng, secured the top spot by defeating South Korea’s Keum Jih-yeon and Park Ha-jun with a score of 16-12 at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre on Saturday.
Huang and Sheng, the reigning world champions in this event, led their team to victory after an impressive qualification round where they topped the charts with a score of 632.2. South Korea's pair, Keum and Park, qualified second with a score of 631.4. The match between these two teams showcased intense competition, with China ultimately emerging as the first nation to stand atop the podium at these Olympics.
In the same event, Kazakhstan made headlines by securing its first Olympic shooting medal since 1996. The mixed 10m rifle team of Alexandre Le and Islam Satpayev claimed bronze after a decisive 17-5 victory over Germany’s Maximilian Ulbrich and Anna Janssen. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Kazakhstan, highlighting their resurgence in the sport.
On the other hand, India’s 10m air rifle mixed team duos, consisting of Ramita Jindal-Arjun Babuta and Sandeep Singh-Elavenil Valarivan, fell short of advancing to the medal rounds. Despite their efforts, the Indian pairs did not make it past the qualification stages at the Chateauroux shooting range.
