Paris Olympics 2024 Today: Lakshya targets bronze, Manika Batra returns to action on Day 10
PTC News Desk: On Monday, August 5, Lakshya Sen will compete in the Paris Olympics with the goal of winning another bronze medal for India. He will take on Zii Jia Lee of Malaysia. On day nine, a range of emotions emerged as the Indian hockey team defeated Great Britain in a penalty shootout to advance straight to the semi-finals. In the meanwhile, Lovlina Borgohain lost to top-seeded Li Qian in the 75kg division in the quarterfinals. After a fierce bout, Lakshya Sen was defeated by the reigning champion, Viktor Axelsen.
Day 10, nevertheless, seems to offer some happiness to the Indian competitors who are back in the race for a medal. The women's table tennis team will play, but the bronze medal match for Lakshya will take center stage.
In the men's singles third-place match at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia will take on India's top shuttler Lakshya Sen, who will be competing for the bronze medal. Lakshya had an incredible run leading up to the semi-final, however she was unable to get beyond the obstacle and go to the gold medal match.
But in the matchup, Lakshya Sen has the advantage over his Malaysian rival. Thus far, he has met Lee Zii Jia five times, winning four of those encounters. Lakshya has the potential to make history by becoming the first Indian to earn a bronze medal in men's badminton.
Nisha Dahiya will open India's wrestling campaign at the Paris Olympics 2024. Nisha will be in action in the Women's Freestyle 68kg, Round of 16 bouts at Champ-de-Mars arena. The 25-year-old from Haryana will face Tetiana Rizhko of Ukraine.
Along with Archana Kamath, Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula are back in action following strong performances in their respective singles events. The women's table tennis team takes against Romania in the round of 16 of the team event.
In the women's singles table tennis competition, Sreeja and Manika created history by progressing to the round of 16. The matchup with Romania would be difficult because the fourth-seeded team has talented players like Adina Diaconu and Bernadette Szocs. India is the competition's eleventh seed.
