Paris Olympics 2024 Day 5 Updates: Can Lovlina Borgohain become first Indian boxer to win two Olympic medals?

Paris Olympics Day 5 Updates: On Day 5 of the Paris Olympics 2024, Indian athletes delivered remarkable performances across various disciplines.

Lovlina Borgohain secured a comprehensive victory in her round of 32 bout in the women's 75kg boxing category against Estonia's Sunniva Hofstad. With this win, Lovlina Borgohain is now just one win away from becoming the first Indian boxer to win two Olympic medals. However, she faces a challenging bout next against Chinese top seed Li Qian.




In table tennis,
Sreeja Akula registered a hard-fought 4-2 win over Singapore's Jian Zeng, joining Manika Batra as the only Indians to reach the round of 16 in singles at the Olympics. Akula’s victory came after a comeback from losing the first game.

In badminton, PV Sindhu showcased her dominance with a commanding 21-5, 21-10 win against Estonia's Kirstin Kuuba in the women's singles group stage. Sindhu's match lasted just 32 minutes. In the men's singles, Lakshya Sen defeated the formidable Jonatan Christie 21-18, 21-12 to secure his place in the round of 16.

Archer Deepika Kumari advanced to the round of 32 in the women's individual archery event after winning her round of 64 match against Quinty Roeffen. Kumari’s performance sets her up for a challenging next round.

In shooting, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, one of India's medal hopefuls in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions, unfortunately, did not make it past the qualification stage. However, Swapnil Kusale finished seventh in the same event and will now compete in the final for a chance to win a medal.

Anush Agarwalla, India's sole representative in equestrian, competed in the Dressage Individual Grand Prix event, continuing his Olympic journey.
