Pakistan great accuses Arshdeep Singh of ball-tampering, urges umpires to 'stay vigilant'

PTC News Desk: In their T20 World Cup Super 9 encounter against Australia, former Pakistani captains Inzamam-ul-Haq and Saleem Malik have accused India pacer Arshdeep Singh and his staff of changing the ball's conditions. According to Inzamam, India had to have tampered with the ball during the middle overs in order to give Arshdeep the reverse swing off the new ball. Malik and Inzamam also criticised the umpires for their lack of awareness of the circumstances; the latter even hinted that the officials did support some teams over others, mentioning India as one of them.

It is challenging to get reverse swing with the fresh ball, according to Inzamam, unless the situation is changed.

"There was reverse swing in the 15th over that Arshdeep Singh bowled. It's too early with the new ball. This indicates that tampering with the ball to obtain reverse swing occurred around the 12th or 13th over. Consequently, the umpires must to maintain a vigilant watch," Inzamam stated in a conversation with 24 News.

It's a common belief that certain teams, like India, cause the umpires to close their eyes. "I recall being penalized for bringing up a comparable circumstance during a match against Pakistan," Malik emphasized.

Inzamam added that if there had been a Pakistani player in that circumstance, the umpires would have taken drastic measures.

There would have been a great deal of talk about the Pakistani bowlers if this had been the case. It is obvious that anything was done to the ball if Arshdeep's ball is reversing in the fifteenth over, Inzamam continued.

Arshdeep is currently leading India's wicket-taking stats in the current competition. Arshdeep also moved up to the second rank in the tournament's wicket-takers list with figures of 3 for 37, taking 15 wickets in six games, behind Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi, who took 16 wickets in seven games.

Following the game, Arshdeep praised Jasprit Bumrah for his outstanding bowling performance throughout the competition.

"I guess a lot of credit goes to Jassi bhai (Jasprit Bumrah) because he puts a lot of pressure on the batters - he gives, what, three or four runs in an over - so batters are coming hard against me, and I just have to try and bowl my best ball and there are a lot of chances of getting wickets there," he stated.
