Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports announces National Sports Awards 2024 | Who get's what

PTC Web Desk: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced the recipients of the National Sports Awards 2024 on Thursday. The awards will be presented by the President of India at a ceremonial function at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 17. These prestigious awards recognise the exemplary contributions of sportspersons, coaches, and entities to the field of sports in India.

Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award 2024


The Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, the highest sporting honour in India, has been conferred upon the following athletes for their outstanding performance over the last four years:

Shri Gukesh D – Chess

Harmanpreet Singh – Hockey

Praveen Kumar – Para-Athletics

Manu Bhakar – Shooting

Arjuna Awards for Outstanding Performance in Sports and Games 2024

The Arjuna Award is given for consistent and commendable performance over four years. This year's recipients include:

Athletics: Jyothi Yarraji, Annu Rani

Boxing: Nitu, Saweety

Chess: Ms. Vantika Agrawal

Hockey:  Salima Tete, Abhishek, Sanjay, Jarmanpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh

Para-Sports: Rakesh Kumar (Para-Archery), Preeti Pal, Jeevanji Deepthi, Ajeet Singh, Sachin Sarjerao Khilari, Dharambir, Pranav Soorma, H Hokato Sema, Simran, Navdeep (all Para-Athletics), Nitesh Kumar, . Thulasimathi Murugesan, Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan, Manisha Ramadass (Para-Badminton), Kapil Parmar (Para-Judo),  Mona Agarwal, Rubina Francis (Para-Shooting)

Shooting: Swapnil Suresh Kusale, Sarabjot Singh

Squash: Abhay Singh

Swimming: Shri Sajan Prakash

Wrestling: Shri Aman

Arjuna Award (Lifetime)

This category honours retired sportspersons who continue to promote sports. The awardees are:

Sucha Singh – Athletics

Murlikant Rajaram Petkar – Para-Swimming

Dronacharya Award for Outstanding Coaches in Sports and Games 2024

Recognising exceptional coaching efforts, the Dronacharya Award has been given to:

Regular Category: Subhash Rana (Para-Shooting), Deepali Deshpande (Shooting), Sandeep Sangwan (Hockey)

Lifetime Category: S Muralidharan (Badminton), Armando Agnelo Colaco (Football)

Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar

This award for promoting sports has been conferred upon the Physical Education Foundation of India.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy 2024

The MAKA Trophy, awarded to the top-performing universities in the Khelo India University Games, has been won by:

Chandigarh University – Overall Winner

Lovely Professional University, Punjab – 1st Runner-Up

Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar – 2nd Runner-Up


Award Selection Process

The selection committee, headed by Justice (retd.) V Ramasubramanian, comprised eminent sportspersons, sports journalists, and administrators. This year saw a significant number of online applications, underscoring the enthusiasm and contribution of sportspersons and coaches nationwide.
