Manu Bhaker walks out of Chennai event after question about viral Neeraj Chopra video

PTC Web Desk: Double Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker reportedly left an event in Chennai on Wednesday after a journalist asked her mother about the viral video of she chatting with javelin star Neeraj Chopra during the Paris Olympics 2024. The 22-year-old champion shooter was attending a felicitation ceremony at Chennai's Velammal Nexus School when the incident occurred.

Earlier this month, two videos from Paris took the internet by storm. One showed Neeraj Chopra in conversation with Manu Bhaker, and the other captured an animated exchange between Chopra and Bhaker’s mother, Sumedha Bhaker. In the latter clip, which has garnered over a million views on X (formerly Twitter), Sumedha Bhaker can be seen holding Chopra’s hand while they chat. This sparked playful speculation online, with many suggesting that Manu Bhaker's mother might be assessing Neeraj Chopra as a potential match for her daughter.

At the Chennai event, Bhaker handled several questions from journalists, including one about wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification and the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) verdict on her appeal. However, when another reporter shifted focus to Bhaker's mother, asking, “What was your conversation with Neeraj (Chopra)?” the situation escalated. The question about the viral video reportedly prompted Manu Bhaker to leave the event abruptly.
