IND beat BAN, T20 WC 2024: India moved one step closer to semifinal qualification as they defeated Bangladesh by 50 runs in their ICC T20 World Cup Super Eights match in Antigua on Saturday. The highlights of the 197-run chase were Hardik Pandya's all-round performance and Kuldeep Yadav's destroying spell.

With this win, India matched Sri Lanka's record for the most outright wins in T20 World Cup history (32).

India tops the Group 1 points points table with two wins in two games and will face second-place Australia on June 24. Bangladesh is ranked last and eliminated from the semifinals after two losses.

India registers new high in six-hitting

Team India hit 13 sixes in their ICC T20 World Cup Super Eights match against Bangladesh on Saturday, the highest they have ever hit in a single T20 World Cup match.

During the game against Bangladesh, India surpassed its previous record of 11 sixes against England in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup, which included seven sixes by Yuvraj Singh, who smashed Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over, becoming the first Indian to do so in international cricket.

In this encounter against Bangladesh, the Men in Blue hit 13 sixes, three of which came from top batsmen Virat Kohli, Shivam Dube, and Hardik Pandya. Rishabh Pant smashed two sixes, while Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav hit one each.

The Netherlands has the most sixes in a single T20 World Cup innings, having hammered 19 against Ireland in an inning back in 2014 to chase down 190 runs in just 13.5 overs.

Rohit after the win over Bangladesh

Following his team's victory over Bangladesh, Indian captain Rohit Sharma stated that putting pressure on bowlers is more important than centuries and fifties in the shortest format of the game.

During the post-game presentation, Rohit stated, "I've been talking about this for a long time. It's about going there and putting that to work. Considering everything, we played fairly and replied to the conditions. We saw one man get 50 and we got 197; in T20, I don't think we need fifties and hundreds; what matters is how much pressure you put on the bowlers. All of the batters have played this way since the beginning, and we want to do the same. The squad has a lot of experience, and we have their back."
