IND vs AUS: India clinch Border-Gavaskar Trophy as 4th test ends in draw

Ahmedabad (Gujarat), March 13: India on Monday clinched the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with half-centuries from Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne helping Australia draw the fourth and final Test match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

India won the four-match Test series 2-1.

Labuschagne (56*) and Steve Smith (0*) were unbeaten as Australia began the fourth session on 158/2 after tea.

With Australia at 175/2 and Labuschagne (63*) and Smith (10*) at the crease, both sides agreed to declare the game a draw after Indian bowlers were unable to claim a wicket in the final session.

For India, Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel each took a wicket.

Earlier, after lunch, Australia resumed their innings with a score of 73/1, with Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne on the pitch, respectively, with scores of 45* and 22*.

The second session was nearly a copy of the first, with a minor change in detail. Ravichandran Ashwin struck the first blow in the first hour of play, but the effortless Australian batting prevented Indian bowlers from gaining any sort of momentum.

Axar Patel struck the second blow in the second session, sending Travis Head (90) back to the pavilion. Travis's mind seemed to be in the nervous nineties as he went to play a drive, leaving a large gap between his pad and bat. The ball spun sharply and crashed into the stumps.

Axar broke Labuschagne and Head's 139-run stand. At the time, Australia was 153/2.

Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne carried Australia for the remainder of the session.

Kuhnemann (6) did not survive the first session as a night watchman for as long as Australia had hoped. It was Ashwin who took his wicket. At the time, Australia was 14/1.

Head and Labuschagne saw the Aussies through the rest of the session without losing a wicket.
