IPL 2025: Harbhajan Singh’s ‘Kaali Taxi’ remark on Jofra Archer sparks controversy
PTC Web Desk: Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh, now part of the commentary panel for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, has courted a row over a controversial remark. During the Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Rajasthan Royals match, Harbhajan Singh made a peculiar analogy while discussing England pacer Jofra Archer’s expensive spell.
Comparing Jofra Archer’s high economy rate to London’s black taxis, Harbhajan remarked, "London me kaali taxi ka meter tez bhaagta hai, aur yaha pe Archer sahab ka meter bhi tez bhaaga hai." (London’s black taxi meters run fast, and similarly, Archer’s meter has also been ticking fast here).
His comments sparked outrage on social media, with many users accusing the former India spinner of making an insensitive statement. Having faced racism allegations himself in the past, Harbhajan’s choice of words has left fans divided. While some demanded an apology, the cricketer-turned-commentator has not yet issued a clarification or responded to the backlash.

On the field, Sunrisers Hyderabad put up a staggering total of 286 runs, the second-highest in IPL history, with Ishan Kishan and Travis Head leading the charge. Rajasthan Royals, despite a strong effort, fell short at 242 runs. Jofra Archer had a forgettable outing with the ball, conceding 76 runs in his four-over spell without taking a wicket.
