Chess Olympiad 2024: India win gold in Chess Olympiad for first time in history
Chess Olympiad 2024: India won its first gold medal in the open section of the 2024 Chess Olympiad on Sunday.
India won the title in the last round after China dropped points on two boards against the United States, while Arjun Erigaisi sealed the victory for the Indians.
The Indian team had a near-perfect run in the competition, beginning with eight victories before being held to a draw by Uzbekistan.
India quickly returned to winning ways, defeating top-seeded USA in the penultimate round to effectively secure the title.
With this, India excelled in its performance at the 2022 Olympiad, where it won a bronze medal on home soil. India earlier won bronze in the 2014 edition.
