Boder-Gavaskar trophy: Cricket Australia breaks silence on Gavaskar's absence during trophy presentation
PTC News Desk: Cricket Australia has finally spoken on legendary Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar's absence during trophy presentation to the winners of the series while asserting that it would've been better had both legends been there.
Earlier on Sunday, Australia while breaking the hiatus of 10 years, reclaimed the Boder-Gavaskar trophy with a 6 wicket triumph against India in a series named after legendary cricketers Allen Border and Sunil Gavaskar.
However, during the trophy presentation to the winners of the series, only Allen Border was present. The apparent absence of Gavaskar didn't go down well with the cricketer leaving him upset for not being invited.
A CA spokesperson while speaking on the concerns on Gavaskar not being invited said that it would've been better had both legends Border and Gavaskar been there on the stage to present the trophy.
"We acknowledge it would have been preferable if both Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar had been asked to go on stage,” a CA spokesperson said.
CA also observed that Gavaskar was informed beforehand that he would be invited for trophy presentation India won the series. The Indian cricketer also acknowleged the fact that he was informed beforehand by the organisers that he won't be required to present the trophy if Australia won the series and took back the BGT. He expressed his bafflement over the decision of organisers given the series was named after him and Border.
"I was told just before the Test started that was going to be the situation. If India didn't win or draw the series I wouldn't be required...I'm not feeling sad, but I'm just feeling a little perplexed. It's the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, both of us should have been there," he said.
