This implies that a coach's next term will be prolonged until the ODI World Cup 2027, which will be held in South Africa, following the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.
Qualifications for the position of coach
The eligibility requirements for candidates applying for the position were also verified by the Indian Board. The prospective applicant ought to: must have participated in at least 50 ODIs or 30 Test Matches; or

Following the ODI World Cup 2023, Dravid's coaching contract was extended for the T20 World Cup 2024. According to BCCI secretary Jay Shah, Dravid is eligible to reapply for the position. "In the next days, an application call will be held. In June, Rahul Dravid's term would come to an end. Shah stated recently that he was free to reapply if he so desired.
"We are searching for a three-year long coach. In Indian cricket, there is no history of using multiple coaches for different formats. In addition, we have several players who are all-format. In the end, the decision will be made by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). I have to carry out their decisions," he continued.
