BCCI opens applications for head coach position as Rahul Dravid's term nears conclusion post T20 World Cup 2024

PTC News Desk: On Monday, the senior men's team head coach position was open for applications to be considered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Indian Board has sent an invitation to apply for the position of Rahul Dravid, whose term is scheduled to expire in June 2024 following the T20 World Cup.

Rahul Dravid is free to reapply, but this time there won't be a delay. "The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invites applications for the position of Head Coach (Senior Men)," stated the BCCI in a statement.

The employment applications must be submitted by 6 pm on May 27, 2024, which is two days after the deadline for making changes to the T20 World Cup roster ends and before the tournament. Applications for the role of Senior Men's Team Head Coach were opened on Monday by the BCCI. Applications for the post must be filed through this link by May 27, 2024, at 6 PM IST.

The Indian Board further stated that the selection process will comprise a comprehensive examination of all applications, followed by in-person interviews and evaluations of the individuals who made the short list.

The 3.5-year coaching contract will run till the ODI World Cup

Interestingly, the coaching term has been maintained at 3.5 years, beginning on July 1, 2024, and ending on December 31, 2027. This implies that a coach's next term will be prolonged until the ODI World Cup 2027, which will be held in South Africa, following the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.

Qualifications for the position of coach

The eligibility requirements for candidates applying for the position were also verified by the Indian Board. The prospective applicant ought to: must have participated in at least 50 ODIs or 30 Test Matches; or

Head Coach of a nation that participates in Test Playing for a minimum of two years

Head Coach for a minimum of three years of an Associate Member, IPL Team, or Equivalent International League, First Class Teams, or National A teams; or must possess a Level 3 BCCI Certification or its equivalent.

Must be younger than sixty years old

Following the ODI World Cup 2023, Dravid's coaching contract was extended for the T20 World Cup 2024. According to BCCI secretary Jay Shah, Dravid is eligible to reapply for the position. "In the next days, an application call will be held. In June, Rahul Dravid's term would come to an end. Shah stated recently that he was free to reapply if he so desired.

"We are searching for a three-year long coach. In Indian cricket, there is no history of using multiple coaches for different formats. In addition, we have several players who are all-format. In the end, the decision will be made by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). I have to carry out their decisions," he continued.
