Hockey Olympians Akashdeep Singh and Monica Malik to tie the knot in Chandigarh
PTC News Desk: Hockey Olympian Monika Malik and 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medalist and Olympian Akashdeep Singh are all set to tie the knot on November 15 in Chandigarh. The marriage marks the union of another sports couple.
Monica hails from Gamri village near Gohana in Haryana who was also part of the Indian Women's Hockey Team that finished fourth position at the Tokyo Olympics whereas Akashdeep Singh is India’s highest scorer in the 2014 World Cup and is a multiple Asian Games medalist who is now posted as DSP with Punjab Police.
The sports duo got engaged in a ceremony at a resort near Jalandhar. The families of the couple have expressed immense joy as they described the affair as 'much awaited'. “We are all delighted with the wedding. Both have represented India, and playing for India has been their biggest dream. Seeing two India players getting married is special for both families,” said family members
Other prominent sports couples from India include former hockey captain Rajpal Singh, who is married to Olympian shooter Avneet Kaur Sidhu, and athletes Manjeet Kaur and Gurvinder Singh Chandi. Wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sangeeta Phogat, along with Sakshi Malik and Satyavrat Kadian, also represent some of India's well-known sporting duos.
