Sports Department to organise Punjab Sports Fair from August 29: Meet Hayer
Chandigarh, July 28, 2022: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and to identify talent of youngsters and teenagers in the field of sports and to create awareness, Punjab Sports Department is set to organize the Punjab Khed Mela.
Punjab Khed Mela will include around 30 sports events and around 3 lakh players of six age groups under 14 to 60 years will participate.

The announcement for the Punjab Khed Mela has been disclosed on Wednesday by Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer
District Sports Minister and Officers were also included in the meeting which held at Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh.
The meeting was held to decide all the arrangements and preparations for the sports extravaganza.
The winners of the Punjab Sports Mela will be graded in their respective sports and will be granted the cash prizes worth Rs 5 crore and certificates.
Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will attend the opening and closing ceremony of Khed Mela.
Six age groups have been included in the Punjab Khed Mela which includes: under-14, under-17 and 17 to 25 age groups. Apart from this for the first time there will also be competitions in the 25 to 40 year, 40 to 50 year and 50-to-60-year age groups.
Athletics, Weightlifting, Badminton, Cricket, Cycling, Shooting, Archery, Bodybuilding, Fencing, Gymnastics, Rowing, Football, Softball, Hockey, Netball, Handball, Kick Boxing, Judo, Archery, Kabaddi, Gatka, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Boxing, Swimming, Wrestling and Tug of War competitions will be held, stated the Minister.

Sports Minister also interacted with all DSOs and asked for suggestions and feedback to make the sports fair a success. He also talked about resolving the possible issues in making necessary arrangements in this regard. He said that the purpose of involving the veteran players is to create a sports culture in the State.
