SP Singh Oberoi to rescue of Muktsar resident serving death sentence in Saudi jail
Amritsar, May 11: Renowned social activist and Sarbatt Da Bhala Charitable Trust founder Dr SP Singh Oberoi has come to the rescue of Balwinder Singh of Mallan village in Muktsar district, Punjab, who is serving death sentence in Saudi Arabia.
Sarbatt Da Bhala Charitable Trust Founder Dr SP Singh Oberoi has announced to give Rs 20 lakh as blood money to save him. Sharing information in this regard, the social activist said Balwinder Singh's family members had earlier contacted him and demanded Rs 2 crore from him to save Balwinder's life.

However, he had initially expressed his inability to pay the full amount to the victim's family, since several other such cases are being fought by him. He said Balwinder Singh's brother Joginder Singh again contacted him over the phone and told him that he had collected about Rs 1.5 crore, but were still falling short of money.
Balwinder's company in Saudi Arabia has also promised to contribute some amount to blood money. Dr SPS Oberoi said he would deposit Rs 20 lakh in the court concerned on his behalf.

He said a Saudi court had given an account number to Balwinder's family, where they can deposit the amount. Dr SPS Oberoi said he was hopeful that Punjab's Balwinder Singh, who had been serving death sentence for the last nine years, would be released soon and reunite with his family.
