Shooting at Canberra Airport, gunman held: Reports
Canberra Airport shooting incident: The Australian Capital Territory (ATC) Policing on Sunday arrested a man and seized a gun after shots were allegedly fired at Canberra Airport, prompting the evacuation of all travellers and staff.
According to reports, police were called at around 1.30 pm after reports of gunshots were heard in the main terminal building of Canberra Airport on Sunday. Eventually, the police took one person into custody and a firearm was also recovered.
The authorities have been reviewing CCTV footage and at this time the person in custody is believed to be the only person responsible for this incident, the police added.
As a precaution, the Canberra Airport terminal was evacuated, and the situation at the airport has been contained. The public is not permitted to enter the airport at this time, according to ACT Policing. No injuries have been reported.
"About 1:30 pm today police were called to the Canberra Airport following reports of gunshots in the main terminal building. Shortly after, one person was taken into custody and a firearm was recovered. There is no immediate threat to public safety," ATC policing wrote on Twitter.

A traveller, who does not want to be named said she had just put her bags into the security check when the incident occurred. "We were in security and heard the first gunshots. I turned around and there was a man standing with a pistol, like a small one, facing out towards the car drop-off," she informed.
"Someone yelled get down, get down and we just ran out of there."
Another eyewitness, Lorraine Haase who is a Canberra local said she boarded a "really full" Virgin flight to Melbourne for a holiday around 1.15 pm.
"[We were] sitting down, about to take off when the captain came out and announced that there had been an incident at the airport involving a shooter," she said, the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age reported.
