PTC Web Desk: WhatsApp is rolling out new interactive features for its status updates, bringing an Instagram-like experience to Android users. The new update, available through the Google Play Beta Programme, introduces a sticker format called “Add Yours.” This feature allows users to personalise their statuses with questions and prompts, encouraging their contacts to respond and making status updates more interactive.

In addition to the new sticker feature, earlier reports revealed that WhatsApp is also testing a poll-like feature for its iOS version. These updates aim to boost user engagement and provide more creative ways to share content on the platform. For instance, if a user shares a picture of the sky, they can invite others to post their own sky pictures, similar to how trends work on Instagram.

According to WABetaInfo, when a user sees an “Add Yours” sticker and participates by contributing their own content, they won’t be able to see who initiated the sticker or what other users have posted. This ensures that WhatsApp maintains its strong privacy standards, in line with its end-to-end encryption policies. This privacy aspect sets WhatsApp apart from Instagram's story updates, where users can typically view the originators and contributors of trends.

WhatsApp has been working on making status updates more visible and accessible for users. In a previous update, it shifted the way statuses are displayed, adding a green circle around a contact’s profile picture to signify a new status. Additionally, WhatsApp has been testing a viewing list to show who has seen each status, and it has also rolled out “likes” for statuses, similar to Instagram Stories.

The addition of the “Add Yours” sticker is expected to further enhance user interaction, encouraging people to engage with status updates more actively. Users will have the opportunity to start their own trends, share personal stories, and get creative with their content. The new feature is still under development but is expected to be available in future updates for Android devices.
