New Delhi, June 15: As Cyclone Biparjoy approaches the coast of Gujarat, an astronaut aboard the International Space Station has shared mesmerising photographs of the powerful cyclonic storm from space.
Sultan Al Neyadi, an astronaut from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), took to Twitter to post the images, providing a unique perspective of the severe weather event unfolding over the Arabian Sea.
Sharing the pictures, Al Neyadi wrote, "As promised in my previous video, here are some pictures of the cyclone #Biparjoy forming in the Arabian Sea that I clicked over two days from the International Space Station." The astronaut's video had earlier showcased the massive storm formation as it moved towards the Indian coast.

In preparation for Cyclone Biparjoy's landfall, over 74,000 people have already been evacuated from coastal areas to safer shelters. The cyclone is expected to make landfall in Kutch this evening, prompting the issuance of orange and yellow alerts in various districts of Gujarat.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that Cyclone Biparjoy, currently positioned around 200 km off the Gujarat coast, is set to make landfall between Mandvi and Karachi near Jakhau Port, sometime between 4-8 pm.
The storm is likely to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to the Saurashtra and Kutch regions of Gujarat, as well as the adjoining Pakistan coast.
Categorised as a "very severe cyclonic storm" of category 3, Cyclone Biparjoy is anticipated to generate winds reaching speeds of 120-130 km per hour, according to the IMD's forecasts. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected regions.
