Sanyukt Kisan Morcha rejects Govt’s MSP committee
Chandigarh, July 19: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of farmers' unions, has rejected the MSP committee formed by Government to resolve the issue of MSP and agricultural issues. The government, during a reply to a question in Parliament, said that three posts have been left in the committee for SKM members. However, the SKM refused to participate in the committee. Three vacant seats for us and rest of the members are close to BJP and RSS. Why shall we join the committee?" asked SKM member Yogendra Yadav. The core demand of the SKM, for which the committee was supposed to be set up, has not been mentioned anywhere. Meanwhile, Centre forms committee to make minimum support price more effective and transparent, promoting crop diversification and natural farming. Former Agriculture Secretary Sanjay Agrawal will head the committee. NITI Aayog member for Agriculture Ramesh Chand will be part of the committee. C S C Shekhar, professor at the Institute of Economic Growth and Sukhpal Singh, professor, Centre for Management in Agriculture, IIM Ahmedabad have joined as agricultural economists on the committee.
