Russia threatens to attack Slovakia's S-300 air defence system supply to Ukraine
Kiev, March 18: As the Russia-Ukraine war intensifies, Russia has threatened to attack supply chains of S-300 air defence systems to Ukraine by Slovakia. Slovakia had announced its willingness to support Kiev by providing the said defence system. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, however, said that Moscow "will not allow" the transfer of the S-300 air defence system, according to a report by The Kyiv Independent. On Thursday, Slovakia's defence ministry had said that the country is willing to send S-300 long-range air defence systems to Ukraine provided that Western allies give them a "proper replacement" in order to avoid creating a security gap, said The Washington Post. In a significant breakthrough, Terran Orbital - a US-based satellite- is providing Ukraine with critical strategic assistance. The satellite maker, according to Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, is sharing important data and images of Russian troop movements with the conflict-torn country. As the battle continues, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reaffirmed the EU's commitment to Ukraine in the wake of Russian aggression and assured Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the EU's 'unabated support'. The EU President applauded the union's cohesion strategy for assisting Ukrainian refugees in seeking refuge in EU countries during this time of grave need. "Cohesion policy has long been the silent strength of our Union. Helping us grow closer together. And today, cohesion policy can help EU countries welcome Ukrainian refugees, quickly and humanely," tweeted von der Leyen.
