Republic Day parade to showcase India's military prowess, cultural diversity

The Republic Day Parade in 2022 will highlight India's military might and cultural diversity, with many unique initiatives planned as part of the 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' to commemorate the country's 75th year of independence. "Several firsts planned during the main parade include the launch of the National Cadet Corps' 'Shaheedon Ko Shat Shat Naman' programme, a grand flypast by 75 Indian Air Force aircraft/helicopters, cultural performances by 480 dancers and display of ten scrolls each of 75 metres prepared during the 'Kala Kumbh' event," according to an official statement from the Defence Ministry. A drone show featuring 1,000 indigenously developed drones, as well as projection mapping, is planned for 'Beating the Retreat' ceremony, as per the Ministry. The National Flag will be unfurled, followed by the National Anthem and a thunderous 21-gun salute, as per tradition. The Republic day parade will begin with a salute from President Ram Nath Kovind. Parade Commander Lieutenant General Vijay Kumar Mishra, Ati Vishisth Seva Medal, a second-generation Army officer, will command the parade. The Parade Second-in-Command will be Major General Alok Kacker, Chief of Staff, Delhi Area. Also Read | India logs 2.5 lakh fresh Covid cases, positivity rate at 20.75% The Rajput Regiment, the Assam Regiment, the Jammu & Kashmir Light Regiment, the Sikh Light Regiment, the Army Ordnance Corps, and the Parachute Regiment are among the six marching contingents of the Indian Army that will take part in the Republic Day parade. The theme of the Indian Army's marching contingents is the evolution of the uniform and personnel weapons of the Indian Army over the last 75 years. Meanwhile, the Naval contingent will be comprised of 96 young sailors and four officers, led by Contingent Commander Lt Cdr Aanchal Sharma. It will be followed by the Naval Tableau, which is intended to demonstrate the Indian Navy's multi-dimensional capabilities. Squadron Leader Prashant Swamyanathan will lead the Indian Air Force contingent of 96 airmen and four officers. 'Indian Air Force, Transforming for the Future' is the title of the Air Force tableau. In the parade, there will be tableaux of 12 states/union territories and nine ministries/departments. The ceremony will culminate with the national anthem, followed by the release of Tri-color balloons. -PTC News
