Rajinikanth conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke award, PM Modi congratulates him
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday congratulated actor Rajinikanth who has been conferred with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award. Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar announced the same on Thursday.
"Happy to announce Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2019 to one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema Rajinikanth Ji. His contribution as actor, producer, and screenwriter has been iconic," Prakash Javadekar wrote.

Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi said, "Popular across generations, a body of work few can boast of, diverse roles and an endearing personality... that’s Shri Rajinikanth Ji for you. It is a matter of immense joy that Thalaiva has been conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Congratulations to him."
Rajinikanth is currently working on Annaatthe, helmed by Siva. Likewise, BJP leader Sambit Patra wrote: "My best wishes and congratulations to Tamil Super Star Shri Rajnikanth for being conferred with highest Indian film ward “ Dadasaheb Phalke Award.”

Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2019 was to be announced last year but was postponed in the wake of coronavirus pandemic, as were the National Film Awards for 2019.
Rajinikanth is one of the Indian cinema's most iconic stars. His debut was in the 1975 Tamil film Apoorva Ragangal.
Thalaivaa has delivered several superhit films. His recent films were Kaala and 2.0 in 2018, and Darbar last year.
