Rajasthan declares black fungus, known as Mucormycosis, as an epidemic
Amid a rise in cases of Mucormycosis (black fungus), primarily affecting those recovering from COVID-19, the Rajasthan government on Wednesday declared it as an epidemic.
Rajasthan government, on Monday, issued orders to purchase 2,500 vials of a drug for the treatment of black fungus known as Mucormycosis, said Health Minister Raghu Sharma.

Currently, Punjab has over 100 black fungus patients while a separate ward has been established at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur for their treatment.

Mucormycosis has been declared as an epidemic in the state under the Rajasthan Epidemic Act 2020, according to a notification issued by the state's Principal Health Secretary Akhil Arora.
The decision has been taken to ensure coordinated treatment of black fungus and the COVID-19.
As per the experts, those with diabetes have been more prone to getting the black fungus infection. Amid the surge in coronavirus cases, Delhi too "frequently reporting" black fungus cases.
Meanwhile, 40 patients of Mucormycosis (black fungus) have been admitted to Sir Gangaram Hospital while 16 others were on the waiting list for beds.
